The twice-annual open house events are a major fund-raising activity for HAWKE. These funds support our two primary goals of rehabilitating injured and orphaned wildlife, and teaching respect for wildlife through educational programs for local schools and organizations. Because there is no state or federal funding for wildlife rehabilitation, the majority of our funding depends membership donations, and fundraising events such as the Dine on The Wild Side on May 14th

This is a family-friendly event that includes tours of the rehabilitation center, where animals are nursed back to health, and the outdoor enclosures such as the new turtle enclosure and see where non-releasable residents live. Animals that are being rehabilitated and going to be released, will not be available for viewing. Enjoy the butterfly garden where the ponds are located for water turtles. You will see on display owls, hawks, Kendra the kestrel, Kenya the Peregrine Falcon. Meet Liberty, the Red Tailed Hawk and Mohawk. Cherokee the Bobcat will be pleased to show off her new large enclosure plus the enclosed large outdoor enclosure built by the boy scouts. Charlie and the other river otters are always-the entertaining stealing the show. Poe the albino crow will be in the hospital room with HAWKE President Melanie Cain-Stage where you can ask her questions and maybe hear Poe talk. Dances with Clouds, the swallow tailed kite, plus turtles and a squirrel will also be on display. HAWKE volunteers will be stationed at each enclosure to answer questions. Refreshments will be available and you can also purchase HAWKE T-shirts and DVD's about HAWKE and Melanie's efforts to save injured wildlife.
